Rachel Shairp Profile

Rachel is an ocean conservationist, implementing solutions to the ocean plastic pollution problem with a strong focus on effective collaboration. She is a Project Manager at ZSL (Zoological Society of London), delivering the #OneLess project, which is working to make bottled water obsolete in London by creating a fundamental shift in the way that Londoners drink water. Rachel oversees and cultivates a network of pioneering businesses and brands to bring together stakeholders, drive collective action, and create systemic impact. Prior to ZSL, Rachel worked at Chatham House. She has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Durham, and a MSc in conservation biology from the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology, based at the University of Kent. And she is a graduate of Forum for the Future’s School of System Change.

In her presentation, Rachel will take us through the ramifications of our current plastic consumption habit. She will explore some of the action being taken by government, business and others to tackle this, presenting case studies and achievements. And she will challenge you to implement change and pioneer new practices, starting with ditching the ubiquitous plastic water bottle.
