Chris Moore

Christopher Moore has more than 30 years’ experience in the hospitality industry having previously worked for Fenwick Ltd – the UK’s largest independent department store group – for 13 years as Head of Group Restaurants. Here he created and operated 37 restaurants across 12 UK sites.

Prior to this, Chris worked at Harrods Ltd for eight years as Restaurants General Manager and developed the in-store restaurants and food hall eateries. Chris also worked for the Hilton Hotel Group for five years in the UK and Holland and trained with the Holiday Inn Hotel Group in New York.

In 2010 Chris was appointed Chief Executive of The Clink Charity as part of a long-term plan to expand the prisoner training concept across Her Majesty’s Prison Service.

His main role is to focus on increasing awareness of the work and skills being developed across The Clink training schemes as well as garnering support from the catering industry and securing the necessary funds for expansion.

The Clink Charity trains prisoners to gain City and Guilds NVQs in food service, food preparation and horticulture. When released they are found employment and mentored weekly by The Clink for six to 12 months to help them re-adjust back into society. By doing this The Clink has been able to dramatically reduce the re-offending rate of those who have taken part in the scheme.

The first Clink Restaurant opened at HMP High Down in Surrey in 2009 and was the first public restaurant to open in the UK within a working prison. Since then more training restaurants have been opened at HMP Cardiff, HMP Brixton and HMP Styal. Each site trains up to 30 prisoners at a time in the training restaurants and kitchens. All of which have reached the number one spot on Trip Advisor this year.

In addition to operating training restaurants The Clink also operates The Clink Gardens horticulture training programmes at HMP High Down and HMP Send the produce grown is then served within the restaurants.

The Clink Events, which delivers an external catering service for private cocktail parties and receptions where the food is made on the inside and served on the outside.  The Clink Café opened in Manchester in May 2018 on the high street training. Both Clink Events and Clink Café work with ex-offenders and homeless clients to teach them to gain their qualifications in hospitality and experience before they are placed into fulltime work and found accommodation upon completion.

A recent Justice Data Lab report concluded in July 2019 that Clink graduates are 64.5% less likely to reoffend than those of a similar profile who have not been on the Clink training scheme.

In addition to his role at The Clink Charity, Chris is also director for Westminster Abbey Enterprises Ltd.
