In the spotlight: Simon Tilley, Target Response

Since 1985 Target Response has been the first-choice data supplier to organisations who require the contact details of meeting, conference, event, PA, HR and marketing decision makers. Members of The Meetings Industry Association since 1993 and a Charity Partner with Meeting Needs, the events industry charity, we caught up with Simon Tilley, Managing Director of Target Response to discuss how they can help the industry as we prepare to reopen.

How can the business meetings and events industry benefit from using your service?

As venues and destinations plan for their reopening, they will need to promote their COVID-secure venue or destination to the business meetings and events industry, and we have a range of GDPR compliant databases within corporate companies, associations and event agencies that will help.

What solutions do you offer the business meetings and events industry?

We supply GDPR compliant databases that contain the contact details of meeting, conference and event decision makers within corporate companies, associations and event agencies, that will assist venues and destinations to promote their meeting facilities in order to generate business. Additionally, we offer a managed email marketing service specifically for the events industry, and we also offer a bespoke database service which enables our clients to select data from over 2.2 million UK organisations.

Why is the business meetings and events industry a key market for your organisation?

We have worked within the business meetings and events industry for 36 years. Business meetings and events is our core market, since our databases are researched specifically to focus on the events decision makers, rather than other generic decision makers that are offered by other data providers.

In light of COVID-19, what do you think are the greatest challenges the industry is currently facing? And how can you help overcome these challenges?

It will be important to inform existing and prospective new customers that your venue is open for business meetings and events. It will also be important to advise your prospective clients that your venue is COVID-secure, which must be done whilst considering GDPR. Many venues and destinations have had more pressing things to contend with over the past 12 months and have not found the time to verify and update their existing data since the first lockdown in March 2020. This will leave many facing a dilemma as to how they can promote their meeting facilities without contravening GDPR, which stipulates that data must be kept accurate and up-to-date.
