In The Spotlight: Jack Marczewski, The Meetings Show

With The Meetings Show returning to ExCeL London on 29-30 June, we caught up with Event Director Jack Marczewski to find out what to expect at this year’s landmark 10th edition show…

What’s new for 2022?

We’re thrilled to see the return of our international exhibitors, who were unable to make it last year for obvious reasons, as well as the addition of newcomers from both the UK and further afield.

This year’s show will be double the size of 2021 and will welcome back Visit Denmark, The Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau and Korea MICE Bureau alongside newcomers such as Istanbul Convention & Visitors Bureau and Zimbabwe National Conventions Bureau, Meet Bristol and Bath and Destination Harrogate, plus a range of hotels, venues, DMCs and technology suppliers.

We haven’t been able to hold fam trips for hosted buyers for the past two years due to numerous restrictions, so it’s exciting to see these return. We’ve got fam trips to Norton Park Hotel & Spa, Cardiff, Bristol & Bath and Chantilly, France organised.

Are you planning any special celebrations to mark the 10th edition?

We will certainly be celebrating this landmark year. As well as being the 10th edition of The Meetings Show, it’s also the 10th anniversary of the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, and we’re thrilled to have Olympic medallist and World Athletics President Lord Sebastian Coe confirmed as our keynote speaker to share his insights.

We also have some other exciting celebratory plans in the works including a special DJ appearance.

What are the main benefits for buyers attending the show?

Live events are booming again, but resources remain stretched across many event teams as the industry recovers from the pandemic. Buyers are busy delivering events, but still need to keep their product and industry knowledge up to date.

Attending The Meetings Show saves them time and streamlines the planning process by providing all their event solutions in one place. Buyers can meet with hundreds of exhibitors from around the world, attend inspiring education sessions and connect with industry peers at countless networking events – all in just two days!

We also run the largest hosted buyer programme of any industry event in the UK, which helps busy events professionals maximise their time at the show by giving them fast-track access to the most relevant suppliers, education and networking opportunities. Hosted buyers can enjoy a dedicated appointments diary to book pre-scheduled meetings and are supported with travel, accommodation and more.

Can you share some of the highlights of this year’s education programme?

After two years in limbo, our industry is ready to move forward, and this year's education content has been designed to reflect just that. The 49 sessions, featuring more than 85 speakers, are streamed into five key areas – Innovation and Trends; Technology; Meetings Design; My Learning and Personal Development and Marketing – to make it easy for visitors to select those most relevant to them.

We have a stellar list of industry experts lined up to cover wide-ranging, thought-provoking topics such as the metaverse, diversity, sexual harassment, catering for non-drinkers at events, and greenwashing.

Hosted buyers will also be able to attend the half-day pre-show conference, taking place on Tuesday 28 June. It will kick off with an opening keynote from Claus Raasted, director of the College of Extraordinary Experiences, followed by sessions covering event intelligence, social sustainability and the benefits of engaging with local communities.

What are you doing to make The Meetings Show more sustainable?

The Meetings Show and our parent company Northstar Travel Group are committed to supporting the net zero goal. We recently expanded our strategic partnership with isla and have pledged to reach Net Zero by 2050 and cut carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.

At this year’s show, we will measure and track greenhouse gas emissions according to industry best practice and use this data to inform future decision-making, ahead of publishing our pathway to achieving net zero by 2050 before the end of next year.

We are also committed to educating events professionals around sustainability through content sessions on the topic as well our Complete Sustainable Events Course in partnership with isla. To register to visit The Meetings Show visit: https://www.themeetingsshow.com/register
