General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect on 25 May 2018. The GDPR will apply to any organisation that’s handling any EU citizens’ personal data, but what will be the practical impact on those who operate within the meetings industry?

Data protection is currently front of mind with much of the discussion being centred around the size of potential fines and the impact on marketing databases and the changes to consent. Where should you be looking to ensure that you operate under the ‘Privacy by Design’ directive?

The Information Commissioner’s Office have produced a 12 step guide to help you prepare for the GDPR and a self assessment checklist so you can fully understand and plan your approach.

On Thursday 17th August we will be holding a Business Breakfast at Bush House, Kings Venues which will address the implications of the legislation. Join us and hear from event marketing specialist Hellen Beveridge. Hellen believes that the legislation should be viewed less as another set of red tape to be endured and more as an opportunity to bring business practices in to the 21st Century. She will discuss the key factors you need to address to become GDPR compliant and how the legislation will give many the chance to review and change the relationship between delegates and visitors.
