Teach First will return for the fourth consecutive year to Leeds on 31 July, with 3,000 trainee teachers and industry professionals arriving into the city through the main gateway of Leeds Train Station. Hosted by Well Met, the conferencing office at Leeds Beckett University, the ultimate week of Teach First’s five week Summer Institute training residential at the Rose Bowl, between 31 July –  4 August.

The UK’s foremost teacher training residential, which kicks off with the Teacher Development Conference on 31 July and 1 August, will see the whole 2017 cohort coming together in Leeds.

Including an 8% increase on attendees from the Yorkshire and Humber region, this year’s delegation will be joined by the 2016 graduates and a range of Teach First ambassadors, external experts and Teach First employees. This year also sees Teach First placing their 1000th teacher in the Yorkshire region.

Well Met Conferencing led the Leeds city bid, fighting off strong competition from the sector to host the prestigious event for 2017 and 2018. The return of the eminent teacher training event for the next two years highlights Leeds position as a dominant force in the conferencing sector; having recently been promoted to the fifth best city in the UK for conferencing (BMEIS) with the city’s academic venues being acknowledged as a key influencer.

On their arrival, Teach First delegates will be greeted by Leeds Welcome Ambassadors, the largest Ambassador team outside of London, who deliver expert guidance and knowledge to all visitors to the city. In addition to the Welcome Ambassadors, Well Met has seen additional financial support from Leeds BID, illustrating the organisations commitment to the growth of conferencing in Leeds.

Commenting on the return of the conference and how Well Met have adapted their offering for this conference, Clare Vidler Conference Manager for Well Met said:

“Winning the Teach First contract at the beginning of this year was a great start to 2017 for Well Met and we were delighted with the result, having fought off strong competition from other venues. We have worked closely with Teach First to tailor our offering to suit their revised Summer Institute; having condensed the final stage from two weeks to one, we were presented with an opportunity to focus on the efficiency of our operation in order to deliver an excellent conference for all 3000 delegates. Food was a key part of this, from providing healthy options to ensuring that speed of delivery was balanced with a great customer experience – our catering team have created a completely new package for this years cohort. We’re looking forward to welcoming Teach First back to Leeds and hope they have a great conference this summer.”

This year, keynote speakers include Professional Adventurer and Serial Entrepreneur Debra Searle MVO, MBE, Novelist Chibundu Onuzo, Ruth Hunt, Chief Executive of Stonewall and Brett Wigdortz OBE, Founder and CEO of Teach First.

Leeds Beckett University’s conference office, Well Met, have worked in conjunction with MEETIinLEEDS at the University of Leeds to host the major event since it first came to the city in 2014. Local partners, first direct arena and accommodation providers Unite, University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett University and Campus Living Villages are set to provide additional venue space and bedrooms.
