The Meetings Industry Association (mia) will be urging the sector to get creative and push ahead with new and innovative plans at its forthcoming conference.

Entitled ‘Don’t stop – rethink’, the full day event on 20 March at Holiday Inn London Bloomsbury will encourage the meetings, conference and events industry to take the lead and make the most out of the current economic situation while empowering and equipping delegates with the tools to act on the commercial insight offered by the numerous sessions.

trevor-williams-webTrevor Williams, Professor of Economics and Finance at Derby University and member of the Institute of Economic Affairs Shadow Monetary Policy Committee (SMPC), will open the conference, which can be attended by both members and non-members. In his enlightening and engaging key note speech, Trevor will put the current economic forecast into context and share what he believes the impact will be as we enter a post Brexit era.

Bringing the insight directly back to the meetings, conferences and events industry, the conference will also include a specific in-depth look at the current performance of the sector and the key trends thanks to the association’s insightful and powerful benchmarking tool miaTouchstone.

Other dedicated plenary sessions delivered by industry experts and entrepreneurs will examine making the most of the opportunities offered post Brexit and safeguarding and security while the panel discussions will cover increasing conversions and revenue at little cost, attracting and retaining talent in the sector, procurement as well as the key emerging trends to look out for on social media.

Motivational speaker Richard Newman of specialist training company Body Talk will bring the conference to a close and ensure attendees leave feeling energised and inspired to implement creative solutions in the future.

richard-newman-webJane Longhurst, Chief Executive of the mia, says: “In light of the current economic climate there could be a tendency to stop, baton down the hatches and freeze budgets as we await the outcome of Brexit and the influence that Donald Trump’s election will have on the markets. Instead the mia is urging its members to use the commercial insights and trends presented at the conference to be bold and develop new and innovative plans to drive business growth.”

She added: “We are excited by the high calibre of speakers that we have attracted to speak and share their knowledge at the conference who will cover the topics important to our industry and equip delegates with the practical skills to take a fresh approach. The UK’s leading event for organisers of both national and international events International Confex is already confirmed as a Bronze sponsor and Wedding Dates is also confirmed as a Bronze sponsor.”
