Alongside the launch of the Business Lounge the Conference Centre also revamped the Wyvern Bar, Stephenson Restaurant, Reception and Toilet facilities to in keep with the Art Deco style of the building.

Derby City Council has approved planning permission for a full transformation of the current Art Deco Lecture Theatre, which will give the conference facilities a new layout and refreshed look.

Mike Ebbitt, Managing Director of the Derby Conference Centre, part of the RTC Group, explained that the refurbishment of the Lecture Theatre will provide additional and more flexible facilities for conference organisers.

Lecture Theatre PastThis is a wonderful 1930s art deco building which does require on-going refurbishment work in keeping with its unique style and stature.”

“The refurbishment programme will be staggered to ensure minimal disruption to business clients and to guests and I know that the improvements to the lecture theatre will be particularly welcomed as part of the conference facilities we offer.”

“The first stage of the work has been to create our Business Lounge which has proved extremely popular with visiting and local business people.”

“We look forward to introducing clients to the upgraded facilities as the work programme continues.”

The Business Lounge facilities include private meeting pods, complimentary parking, superfast broadband and refreshments.  Discounts on meeting rooms and hotel accommodation are also available as part of the membership package options.

The Derby Conference Centre opened its doors as a training college for railway staff in 1938 and cost just £50,000 to build.  It was designed by William H Hamlyn – London Midland and Scottish Lecture (2)Railway’s principal architect.  In 2007, the venue was restored and relaunched as The Derby Conference Centre.
